According to Arkansas law, when a school bus stops and displays its alternating red warning lights for the purpose of loading or unloading passengers, every operator of a motor vehicle or motorcycle approaching the school bus from any direction must stop at least 30 feet behind a stopped school bus.

Jacqueline Vergason has been Hurricane Creek Elementary’s principal for two years. For Mrs. Vergason, education is more than a job, it’s a calling. “I love people,” she says. “I love investing in the lives of people, young and old. I love supporting and encouraging others, and seeing it make a positive difference in their lives. I take very seriously the impact that my influence can have on others.”
FUN FACT:
Mrs. Vergason and a friend once took a one-way road trip covering 2,200 miles in 48 hours, from home to Nevada and California.

The Bryant School District will present the Annual Report to the Public during the regular monthly board meeting on Thursday, October 21 at 6pm. The meeting will be held in the the Professional Development Center, Bryant High School (Building 18).
The report, presented in video format, provides an overview of the progress made during the 2020-21 school year and includes district data points along with celebrations.

Our bus drivers are safety professionals! Drivers must complete a pre-trip inspection before each route. Each of our buses is equipped with a Leave No Student Behind Alarm System, which ensures each driver walks to the back of the bus post-trip checking seats to be sure no child is left on the bus. After the inspection, the alarm is shut down, which allows the driver to remove the key from the ignition. #BusSafety
The Bryant School Board prioritizes allocating the resources for the safety of students and staff. In addition to adding new cameras, older video cameras throughout the district are being replaced with newer models utilizing up-to-date technology. The new cameras will provide a clearer and broader view of our facilities allowing us to monitor and identify any potential dangers or incidents that may occur. #SafeSchoolsWeek

Tami K. Edwards has been the learning leader at Collegeville Elementary for four years. She loves being a principal because she loves kids. “My favorite thing about being a principal is sharing my passion for students and helping them see education as their ticket to a better life. I also enjoy supporting teachers so they can be equipped to help students be successful,” says Mrs. Edwards.

Mrs. Edwards loves to dance! Until she moved to Bryant, she enjoyed being a certified Jazzercise instructor for almost 10 years.
FOOD BOX DISTRIBUTION MOVED TO THURSDAY
Bryant Public Schools will host a food distribution on Thursday, October 21, 4:00-5:00pm, behind Bryant Elementary. Families must have a student currently approved for free or reduced meals in the Bryant School District to qualify to receive food boxes.

October 18-22 is Digital Citizenship Week, a time to help students reflect on how their digital lives impact their social and emotional well-being. Check out these great resources at commonsense.org (subject matter available by grade).
ALL students will be dismissed early on Thursday, October 21. Elementary schools will hold virtual Parent-Teacher Conferences from 2:00-7:30pm.
School will be closed for students on Friday, October 22 while teachers and staff members attend Professional Development.
AMERICA'S SAFE SCHOOLS WEEK
Safety is a priority at Bryant Public Schools. Thanks to our partnership with the City of Bryant, eight School Resource Officers are part of our security team. Over the last few years, the Bryant School Board has allocated resources to ensure there is an armed presence on every school campus by adding nine Commissioned School Security Officers. #SafeHornets
