Good morning, from Mrs. Vergason! I love this time of year, with the cooler mornings and the falling leaves. I hope you've been able to spend some time outside in the beautiful sunshine. As you know, today is early out. HCE will dismiss at 1:40, and all car riders should be picked up by 2:10, so their teachers can attend professional development. Buses and Daycare vans will run their regular routes with adjusted times.
Our onsite Flu Clinic will be Wednesday, September 30. Please make sure the proper form is turned in to your child's teacher if you plan to get your child a flu shot. There will not be a Flu Clinic for virtual students, but you are encouraged to contact Saline County Health Department or your family doctor for direction.
School pictures, for blended students, will be this Thursday, October 1. There will be more information later about pictures for our virtual students.
Please remember to have your child bring a clean mask each day, and a clean water bottle....I understand on occasion, they may run out of the house in a hurry and forget. We have extra masks they may borrow for the day, but we encourage parents to help their child remember to pack an extra for back-up.
Even though things look different this year, and we must support one another from a distance, know that we appreciate all you do on your end as the parent!

Ms. Hill's third graders are wild about learning the strategies for multiplying!

Mrs. Penfield's third grade students get messy in STEM class with "My Mouth is a Volcano Toothpaste Challenge."

This has been Freedom Week in Arkansas public schools. Music and art unite for a collaborative patriotic project with our third graders, focused around "America the Beautiful". Mr. Fonda and Mrs. Lee proudly pose with the finished project!

Hurricane Creek Elementary is a safe place, a place of respect, and a place where learning happens. Look at what our older students are learning...Fifth grade students create their vision of the author’s
critical characters, objects, and settings from their own books!

Library fun with Mrs. Seidenschnur!
Our kindergarteners and first graders have been working on author studies during library class this week. Kindergarten classes read “No David!” and “David Goes To School” by David Shannon. First graders read “The Pigeon Needs A Bath!” and “Listen To My Trumpet” by Mo Willems. Then they participated in a Directed Drawing activity where Mrs. S showed them the steps to draw characters from their books. Kindergarteners drew David, and first graders drew Piggie! Check out a few of their masterpieces! 📚🖍

Look at the smiles on their faces...our virtual teachers are rocking it! Here are a few snapshots of our first grade and CBI teachers teaching their heart out.

Kindergarten is learning all about Bubbles! They learned that milk is sticky and water is not, and learned how bubbles aren’t always made out of soap! Mrs. Broach’s class read the book, “POP!” and predicted what would happen before blowing and discussed results afterwards! Ms. McLaren's class knows, it’s always a fun day learning when there are bubbles involved!

Mrs. Rankin's fourth graders take a break after NWEA assessments, and enjoy a cool snack while social distancing.
