To conclude their CKLA unit on farms, Kindergarten combined their new knowledge with learning to vote in an election. They read “Duck for President” then paired it with a nonfiction text “Voting in Elections”. They learned that before voting, voters learn about the candidates, then enter a private voting booth to make their selection. So after learning about the cow, pig, chicken, and sheep in their curriculum, they too entered a voting booth to make an informed decision. The votes were organized on a graph and counted, and the voters chose pig as their favorite farm animal! And to make things even more exciting, they had some special visitors bring the farm to them! 🐄🐖🐓🐑

Today CES was thrilled to welcome two very special visitors; Miss Arkansas, Camille Cathey and Miss Teen of Greater Little Rock, Amelia Lisowe. 👸👸
Camille came to our character awards ceremony and spoke to students about what it means to be self-directed and how having this trait allowed her to achieve the goals she has so far. She also had some of our boys compete to be Mr. Arkansas and crowned our precious Carson! 👑
Amelia spoke to our 2nd and 4th grade students about her nonprofit organization called Lisowe's Lights, which supplies night lights and cards to children upon entering a foster home. She read the book, The Foster Dragon to give students a better understanding of what life is like for children in this situation and offered them all an opportunity to make a difference by volunteering with her organization.
We would like to say thank you to both ladies for speaking to our Wildcats today and for being positive role models that encourage others to also show good character!

Our teachers and staff would like to say thank you to all of the parents that came to Parent-Teacher Conferences this week! We appreciate you for taking the time to visit with us and for your support! We hope you all enjoy your Fall Break!
Don't forget that next week is Red Ribbon Week! Remember that during Book Character Parade students costumes are not allowed to be scary and/or violent, and they must have a copy of the book that their character is featured in to carry during the parade! Let Mrs. Arroyo know if you need assistance finding a book!

📢REMINDER: All schools will be closed for Fall Break October 25-28. Students will return to classes on Tuesday, October 29.

Our 2nd and 3rd grade classes had an opportunity today to virtually chat with the author, Mary Pope Osbourne, who famously wrote The Magic Treehouse series.
In order to prepare for the discussion, many of our classes read the first book in her series, Dinosaurs Before Dark. They got to listen to her discuss the book and interact by asking her questions. 😻📚🦖
