Bryant High School teacher Ricky Manes, a longtime leader in Holocaust education in Arkansas, was awarded $5,000 from The AHEAD Fund on the last day of #HolocaustEducationWeek.
The Arkansas Holocaust Education Award Donation (AHEAD) Fund rewards Arkansas educators who go above and beyond in teaching the powerful lessons of the Holocaust. Mr. Manes is the inaugural recipient of the award, which provides a stipend and funds to bring in a Holocaust survivor to teach students about this dark time in history.
Mr. Manes teaches an advanced course that builds on the introduction to the Holocaust and addresses essential questions about its impact on human behavior. He is piloting the course at Bryant High School. Mr. Maines worked with the Arkansas Department of Education to develop the Holocaust education curriculum for grades 5-12. Manes leads workshops where he shares Holocaust knowledge and resources with other educators in the state. He was one of the main contributors to the Arkansas PBS digital series, The U.S. and the Holocaust.
We are #BryantProud to honor this leader in education. Congratulations, Mr. Manes!
