Bryant Public Schools are committed to creating a supportive and understanding environment for all students. Recognizing the profound impact of childhood trauma on development and behavior, the district has taken significant steps to equip its elementary educators with the necessary tools and knowledge.
As part of the district's strategic plan, all elementary teachers and administrators recently participated in comprehensive training sessions conducted by the Arkansas Trauma Resource Initiative for Schools (AR TRIS). This initiative is designed to educate school staff about the complexities of childhood trauma and provide effective strategies for support.
All elementary staff engaged in a training titled "Supporting Students During Difficult Times." This insightful session shed light on the various forms of childhood trauma and their potential impacts on children's development and behavior. The training, led by Dr. Sherese Hicks from TRIS, highlighted essential strategies for supporting students who have been exposed to traumatic events. Staff members learned how to identify signs of trauma, implement supportive interventions, and connect students with additional services when necessary.
Bryant Elementary's staff, having previously completed Level 1 training, participated in an advanced Level 2 session. This training, facilitated by Evan Wilons, LPC, focused on deepening their understanding of trauma-informed practices. The session emphasized fostering a sense of emotional and physical safety for students and promoting resilience through supportive relationships. Staff members explored advanced techniques to create a nurturing and stable environment, ensuring that all students feel safe and supported.
By equipping educators with the skills to recognize and address trauma, the district aims to create a school community where every student can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
