Boys and Girls Stae

Arkansas Girls State and Arkansas Boys State are immersive civics education programs designed for young women and men who have completed their junior year of high school. The programs teach future generations of Arkansas citizens to be actively involved in their communities and government at every level. Special thanks go to First Electric Cooperative and American Legion Auxiliary Benton Post 19 for generous sponsorships of our delegates.

Each participant of the Arkansas Girls State program is assigned a place in a mock political party, city, and county. Over the course of the week, delegates nominate and elect officials to the various levels of their government. The program offerings are designed to offer practical instruction on the duties and responsibilities both of a citizen and of public officials.

“As someone interested in government, [Girls State] was a great way to experience government judgment-free. What was most important though, even if you aren’t interested in government, a sisterhood was built and will continue to grow stronger.” —Maricka Farr

"While at Girls State I learned a lot about not judging others and being true to yourself. I made friends in my city and I had the chance to meet amazing guest speakers. I LOVED Girls State, and I would honestly go back again.” —Johnnia Dukes

During their week at Arkansas Boys State, delegates are assigned a political party, city, and county. Throughout the week, delegates, from the ground up, administer this mock government as if it were real: they run for office, draft and pass legislation, solve municipal challenges, and engage constituents. By the week’s end, the delegates have experienced civic responsibility and engagement firsthand while making life-long memories and friends — all with the guiding principle that “Democracy Depends on Me.”

“Arkansas Boys State provides young males with structured activities designed to develop leadership, teamwork, and civic responsibility. Delegates engage in various educational and recreational programs aimed at fostering personal growth and community service.” —Ethan Williams

"Arkansas Boys State was a wonderful experience! I was able to bond with all the people in my county and made lifelong friends. I also got to meet some great leaders in the state of Arkansas."
—Dylan Middleton
