Kati Watterson's remarkable 33-year career at Bryant Public Schools is a testament to her dedication as both an educator and counselor. After teaching music for 11 years at the elementary level, she transitioned into secondary counseling, providing guidance and support for students at BMS and BeMS. “I loved my years in music with all the student plays and performances, but counseling has also been very fun and rewarding. I have made many lasting relationships with students and feel blessed to have been a part of their lives,” she said.
Asked about the biggest change she has seen in education over her career, she noted technology. “Coming from a time when we did not grow up with electronics, it has sometimes been a struggle. Many times I have leaned on the younger generation to help pull me through! When I first started my counseling career we used test booklets, number two pencils, and filling in bubbles. Now we use a testing portal. Who would have thought?” she said.
With such a long career in the same district, Kati has learned that the people at Bryant are like a big family, where everyone knows and truly cares about others. “I am so thankful for the many ways the Lord has blessed me throughout my years at Bryant. He has always known the best plan for me and has always led me to the best possible place during transition times in my career. I love my Bryant family and will miss seeing everyone on a daily basis,” she said.
Kati plans to travel and camp with her husband Jeff. They will enjoy time with her two sons, two stepsons and her little red-headed grandson, Leland. As she closes this chapter, we celebrate Kati’s influence on students and staff, which will remain a part of her legacy.
