DISTRICT OFFERS NEW TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS

Bryant Public Schools will offer more bus transportation options this school year for elementary students. In the past, students living within a two mile radius of their schools were not eligible to ride the bus.

Students in kindergarten through 5th grade will now be allowed to ride a bus regardless of how close they live to their schools. Safety has long been a concern for younger students crossing multi-lane roadways and walking on streets without sidewalks. Construction has also been an issue. Buses will now be making fewer stops off Alcoa Road and Highway 5 and making more stops in these and other neighborhoods.

When possible, elementary students will have designated bus stops in their neighborhoods and ride only with elementary aged students.

The two-mile radius, however, still applies to students in grades 6-12. With the addition of elementary only buses, most older students will be dropped off in the afternoon before their younger siblings.

By offering new and safer options, the district is encouraging families to consider the benefits of bus transportation. Buses are proven to be the safest form of transportation; Bryant Schools has an outstanding safety record. Elementary students will board buses and arrive at school earlier, allowing parents to leave for work sooner. More students on buses mean better traffic flow for everyone!

Bus routes are available online at bryantschools.org/transportation. Click on the appropriate school for route options.

The posted times for stops are estimates––delays are a possibility for the first few days of school. If you have questions concerning particular routes or stops, please contact your school or the Transportation Department at 653-5150.

Bus passes will be issued at Open House. You may also contact your school secretary or Transportation Department for passes.

FLASHING RED. KIDS AHEAD.

Starting school is always an exciting time for Arkansas’ students and their families. While academic achievement is always a top priority, it is just as important to be mindful of student safety in and around school buses.

The Arkansas Department of Education and Arkansas Association of Pupil Transportation are proud to launch the Flashing Red. Kids Ahead. school bus safety campaign, which begins its sixth year. The 2018 campaign has been expanded to include the entire month of August.

Educators, parents, school bus drivers and community leaders throughout the Natural State are encouraged to remind Arkansas motorists to obey all traffic laws whenever they are near a school bus. Also, motorists are reminded that it is illegal to pass a stopped school bus whenever its red lights are flashing, as students are present. The fines, penalties and punishment for anyone found guilty of illegally passing a stopped school bus were increased dramatically by Act 2128 of 2005, also known as Isaac’s Law.
