School nurses are key to children’s health and success at school. They provide care to individual students and help shape school-wide health policy.

If a student has an asthma attack or allergic reaction, has an accident on the playground or experiences a diabetic emergency, the school nurse is there to provide appropriate health care management.

Schools are required to develop individualized education and/or health care plans that establish learning goals and guarantee appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities. School nurses are the professionals who develop and implement the health plans, dispense medications and provide instruction to others on how to administer the necessary care.

Our nurses are essential to healthy school environments. School nurses work to promote healthy food and fitness programs and promote hand washing to prevent the spread of disease. They work with teachers and school leaders to make changes or implement programs that affect the health of all students.
