Safety Terms & Procedures

In the event of an emergency at your child’s school, it is important to know the reasoning behind the response and the terms associated with it.

Before an Emergency:

  • Ensure the emergency contact information in your child’s official electronic school record (eSchool) is accurate and current. Contact your child’s school to confirm or update information. (Information in eSchool is automatically uploaded to Apptegy, the district mass communication system.)

  • Download the Bryant Public Schools app to your mobile device.

  • Connect with district social media: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

In Case of a School Emergency:

  • The emergency plan will be implemented and the district/school emergency teams will respond. All appropriate emergency response agencies will be dispatched to the school.

  • Trust that emergency personnel and the school and district are doing everything that is needed to protect your child, then we will communicate with you.

  • Keep your phone close by. The first and official way for us to contact you in an emergency is using our Apptegy automated system (phone, text and email).

  • Do not phone your child or the school. Phones are needed to manage the situation and lines must remain open. Staff and students are discouraged from using cell phone communication for safety reasons.

  • Do not rush to your child’s school. You will not be allowed on campus during an emergency. First responders need the area clear to do their jobs. After emergency responders determine that a safe student release is possible, arrangements will be made to reunite children with their families.

  • Depending on the situation, students and employees will be secured within the building or relocated to a Reunification Site.

Reunification After an Emergency:

  • You will be directed to the reunification site, where you will need photo identification.

  • Students will only be released to a parent/guardian and/or other adults listed on the student’s Emergency Information Form, which you filled out at the beginning of the school year. The individual picking up the student will be asked to complete a Student Release Form (available on-site). This procedure is designed for your child’s protection and for your peace of mind.

  • Please be aware that reunification can be time-consuming, and we would appreciate your patience.

Following an Emergency:

  • Listen to and acknowledge your child’s concerns.

  • Provide reassurance that your child is safe.

  • Assure your child that additional prevention efforts are being put in place.

  • Seek help from school personnel or a mental health professional if concerns persist.
