AMI, or Alternative Methods of Instruction, plans are used if Bryant Public Schools experiences one of the following events: a contagious disease outbreak, inclement weather, or utility outage.
Using AMI, students complete activities and assignments at home rather than making up instructional days in the classroom. If needed, up to five (5) AMI days may used this school year.
The district’s AMI plan will go into effect on the FIRST day of school missed. Students will complete assignments to receive credit for the missed day of regular instruction. These activities will provide practice for skills that have already been taught or enrichment learning activities.
If weather forecasts indicate a potential school closing, parents may be notified in advance about the possibility of an AMI day. Final notification for AMI day(s) will be communicated to parents, students, and staff by 6:00am.
When a school closing is announced via Blackboard (phone, email, text), district app, website, and social media, the message will also indicate an AMI day.
Assignments on AMI Days
Elementary (Kindergarten-5th Grade)
K-5 student activities are posted online at bryantschools.org (under the Parents tab) prior to AMI day. Parents may request a paper copy if needed. Packets are available for each day eligible for AMI.
Secondary (Grades 6-12)
Students in grades 6-12 will receive assignments and have access to instruction through Google Classroom for each class prior to AMI day. Parents may request a paper copy if needed.
Secondary teachers will monitor their Google Classroom for messages from students who are completing assignments at home and respond promptly. Teachers are expected to check email periodically to answer any questions submitted by parents and students about assignments.
Students in grades 9 -12 who take classes via distance learning (Virtual Arkansas, Google Classroom, Edgenuity) will continue their learning as current practice in those classes.
AMI and IEPS for Students with Disabilities
Students with disabilities who receive instruction in general education classes under indirect services will receive and complete the same AMI assignments as their non-disabled peers with the accommodations written on individual IEPs.
Students with disabilities who receive services in a resource room or a self-contained classroom will receive AMI assignments from their special education teachers.
The AMI process for students with disabilities will be shared and discussed with parents during Annual Review Conferences each school year. IEP team will address related services on AMI days based upon the IEP and the students’ individual needs.
Students with disabilities who receive speech-language therapy will receive AMI packets from the therapist who provides therapy.
AMI assignments (K-12) will be due by the end of the 3rd day following the AMI day(s).
Students will have up to 3 days following an AMI day(s) to complete their assignments. Students who complete the AMI assignments will be counted present. Students who do not complete the AMI assignments will be counted absent. Attendance will be recorded in eSchool within 5 days of the declared AMI day.
