The Bryant School Board, staff and administration were joined by community members to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Bryant Junior High School on June 7.
Construction is already underway for the facility. When the doors open in August 2019, the new junior high school will serve Bryant students in the eighth and ninth grades.
Bethel and Bryant Middle Schools will shift to a sixth and seventh-grade configuration, allowing room for growth at both of middle schools in each of the grade levels.
Additionally, ninth grade students will be moved from the high school campus, allowing for growth at the 10th, 11th and 12th-grade levels. By building the new Bryant Jr. High, overcrowding will decrease at all current secondary schools which should have a positive impact on traffic patterns.
The facility will initially be built with classroom space for 1,600 students. The multi-use spaces (cafeteria, gym, media center) will be built to accommodate 2,000 students. A classroom wing expansion can be added for future growth without the need to increase capacity in multi-use spaces.
In addition to 73 classrooms, features of the new 252,000 square foot facility include science, business/career education, and family consumer science labs; music rehearsal spaces; art rooms; and multi-use areas including a black box theater. The two-story media center will feature a computer lab. Athletic spaces will include a 1,200 seat gym with stage; four practice courts and eight locker rooms.
In the new cafeteria, students will enjoy a dining and serving space large enough to provide 8-10 different food options.
The new junior high will provide outstanding opportunities for our students, in a safe and secure learning environment. We look forward to offering our Hornets a strong academic program focused on high student achievement, a comprehensive athletic program, and positive student activities.
We are extremely grateful for the generous support of our citizens, and we look forward to building the future of our school district and community together.
